pyobjviewer is a simple viewer for obj format 3D meshes. It has no dependencies on external 3D libraries such as opengl. It uses vanilla pygame, and provides an example and insight into the inner workings of 3D display. lighting and meshes.

I made a couple 3D engines without OpenGL a while ago. Before I knew about OpenGL, I wanted textured polygons too, and couldn't figure out how, short of a manual per-pixel interpolation.

very cool!

With pygame 1.9 you can render textured polygons.

So you should be able to render textured obj files too :)
